Now that the vast majority of our students in both male and female sides have had their laptops more than a week, teachers must have experienced and approached different ways of using these machines in the best way that they see that it serves their students’ learning objectives. On the other hand, difficulties and challenges must have risen as well. Will you share some of these methods and concerns with others; you might receive a word of thanks, or answer and a solution for your academic and/or technical concerns.

Here are some ways that I have been incorporating the use of laptops into classes. Hopefully
they are all acceptable uses.
1. Using the Headway CD (only some Ss do the CD at home and at any rate there are many activities). After presenting a portion of a lesson, I sometimes change it up by getting Ss to work on the related material on the CD. This is fairly quick and very effective in getting Ss to practice the targeted learning.
2. Create "mini-research" opportunities. For example, in Chapter 6 (New Headway Plus)Ss learn about comparatives and superlatives with much of the material revolving around different cities and countries. As a follow-up and application activity, Ss can work in pairs to research a city or country that is new to them and then report their findings to the class (10 minutes to look up capital, climate, population,a few interesting facts etc. - presentations can follow - or you can let them complete the task for homework and present the next available day). Suggested sites can include wikipedia and infoplease.com but I encourage Ss to use any search engines (English language setting) to do their own searches for practice.
3. Before a given grammar lesson, I look up some practice exercises and after learning the new grammar ask the Ss to go to a particular site to work on the activity. It will also be on the projector - Ss enjoy working on the fun grammar activities on websites and again this doesn't take up too much class time.
4. Since dictation is part of Headway - I have had my Ss create a folder entitled 'English Notes'. They have the option of typing their notes in Microsoft Word as opposed to the traditional notebook. This is great practice in typing and notetaking and will definitely benefit them now and in their future studies in English.
To solve the problem of waiting for computers to log on - I get Ss to turn them on at the beginning of class but to have the screen tilted downwards so that when we need to use the laptop it is quick and easy to access.
There are very simple but effective ways to make use of the laptops in the daily learning environment.
